OpenAI Launches GPT-6 to Turn Chat Responses Into Apps
OpenAI has released its GPT-6 model family to ChatGPT, introducing an Intelligent UI feature that generates interactive mini-apps and charts directly within conversational responses.

OpenAI is rolling out its new GPT-6 model family across all ChatGPT tiers, reaching more than 1.2 billion weekly users. The update introduces a capability called Intelligent UI, which allows the model to generate interactive elements like forms, charts, buttons, and mini-apps directly inside chat replies. Paid subscribers will access the update via the GPT-6 Sol model, while free and Go tier users will be served by GPT-6 Luna. The models powering Codex and Work experiences remain unchanged for this release.
The Intelligent UI system relies on a streamable component library and a compiler that processes the model's output progressively, allowing interactive elements to render before the full response is complete. In internal evaluations, the lightweight GPT-6 Instant model began answering web-search queries 44 percent faster on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. For multi-step agentic tasks, GPT-6 starts answering as fast as GPT-5.6 Medium and scores higher overall than GPT-5.6 Extra High. The model also features improved reasoning capabilities, building answers through partial responses to reduce perceived waiting times.
OpenAI built GPT-6 with safety guardrails inherited from its Astra project, making the model more resistant to multi-message jailbreak attempts than GPT-5.6 Sol. It is also designed to clearly state when it lacks the necessary data or tools to fulfill a request. Users can leverage the new interface capabilities for tasks like planning with scaling calculators, exploring educational simulations, and building simple utilities like bill splitters.
For developers and enterprise practitioners, the API remains unchanged, as Intelligent UI is currently exclusive to the ChatGPT consumer product. However, the shift from static text to dynamically generated interfaces signals a major change in software design. Instead of relying on pre-designed layouts, the model itself determines the best visual structure for each response. Practitioners must note that OpenAI still considers layout quality and calculation accuracy to be areas requiring further refinement, meaning critical financial or medical outputs will still need external validation.
